Soundtrack review: The Elder Scrolls Online (Brad Derrick – 2014)

Once in a while, not often enough, along comes a score that burrows inside me from the first cue, and once it’s there it just spreads a warmth that takes me over from inside. It finds its way through my spine, in my blood stream and when it gets to my skin it raises my pores in what we call goose bumps. It calms all my doubts, it lowers my heartbeat so I can close my eyes, relax, and dream. I can remember my childhood, I can cherish the present, I can dream of the future.

The score for the game “The Elder Scrolls online”, by Brad Derrick is a poem on notes. The music is like the love of your parents: gentle and tender all the time…strict and determined when it needs to be…it calms your fears with the most relaxing and eerie sounds….it tells you stories with the most blissful of voices and its soft choirs…it motivates and inspires you with the stronger choirs…It provides the safety and comfort you need to grow up and get strong. This music is also the warm embrace of your loved one, a moment when you can become vulnerable and not worry about a single thing.

Did I mention that the music is beautiful? There’s no other word for it. Every single thing I would want to say about Brad Derrick’s composition just morphs into “beautiful”. The lyricism of this score is just out of this world. The atmosphere it sets is worth a hundred spas. I am happy when I listen to this, I am grateful and I don’t want it to stop. Luckily, this score is over two and a half hours long, and every single second is a priceless gem.  I could never interrupt this listening experience, so I always keep it for special moments.

“The Elder Scrolls Online” by Brad Derrick is a strong candidate for score of the year, and the other compositions of 2014 will have to be perfect to stand a chance. This is one of the most beautiful scores I have ever heard, and listening to it will make your life richer and more peaceful.
